The Cheela Space Safari workshop takes place over three days (& nights) from midday on Friday the 6th of August 2021 until midnight of Sunday the 8th of August. Accommodation is provided for the three nights of the event, with most guests departing on the morning of Monday the 9th of August.
Most guests arrive on the Friday morning & depart on the Monday following the event.
You are more than welcome to arrive earlier or depart later, however you will need to any arrange additional accommodation with Cheela and organize your own transport.
There are four options available for the three nights (6th, 7th & 8th of August) of the Space Safari:
Note that only the Plains View rooms have ensuite bathrooms.
For further details please consult the accommodation information on the Cheela website. If you have any questions, please contact Cheela directly on 08 9189 8251.
Meals are included for the duration of the Space Safari from lunch on Friday the 6th until dinner on Sunday the 8th. A light breakfast will also be provided on Monday the 9th. Any meals or snacks before or after the event will need to be arranged and paid for with Cheela.
You can either drive yourself directly to Cheela or fly into Paraburdoo (from Perth) and either hire a vehicle or book an airport transfer ($50 one way) when you book your ticket.
Qantas runs regular flights into Paraburdoo Airport from Perth every day (duration: 1h45m). Easy flight options for the event schedule include:
Friday morning arrivals:
Monday morning departures:
Paraburdoo airport is approximately 1 hour drive to/from Cheela. You can purchase an airport shuttle service at $100 return when booking your event ticket - provided your flights arrive on morning of Friday the 6th and depart on Monday the 9th of August. Alternatively, pre-booked car hire is available at Paraburdoo airport.
We generally discourage camping as the late nights can cause disturbance for the other campers in the campsite area. Sleeping under canvas also makes it very challenging to have much needed sleep-in after a long night of astrophotography. We speak from experience!
We should have a few spares so don’t worry too much if you don’t have everything on the list. That said, do try bring the essentials with you to make sure you can get the best out of the workshop.

If you want any advice on what equipment to bring/buy/borrow, please drop us an email (via info@space-safaris.com) detailing your current equipment and what you are considering bringing to the workshop.
If you have a laptop you can use for photo editing, it would be a great idea to bring it along to the workshop with the software you want to use for photo processing and editing pre-installed.
